Dimax 4 or Smartpan Beam Check

In order to take a panoramic beam check with a Dimax 4 sensor, you will need the appropriate version of Device Tool installed for the version of Firmware and Didapi you have installed.

You can reference our compatibility chart HERE

You can see a video demonstration of a beam check being performed HERE

For this section of the calibration, remove all tools from the panoramic side of the machine. This includes bite sticks, temple supports, chin rests, and ball phantoms. We want the imaging area to be completely clear.

Setup

Once Device Tool is installed, ensure your ProMax IP is setup correctly under “Manage Imaging System”.

From there, select “Start Calibration” and change your Sensor Type to “Dimax4”.

Dimax Sensor Selection

From there, select “Panoramic” for a Dimax 4 sensor or “Smartpan” for a 3D sensor on the next screen, and proceed to the calibration itself.

Panoramic Imaging Mode Selection

Capture

While using Device Tool, the machine should do all of the work for you, and it shouldn't be necessary to ready the machine up.

Once it shows “Waiting for Exposure” on Device Tool, simply hold the exposure button down. It will be a very short exposure.

For units with Smartpan, you may need to take a second exposure for Multiview before Device Tool will display results.

If the entire beam passes (it says “good” in the middle as shown below), you can move to the Flat Fields. If it fails (it will say “warning” in the middle), reference our beam alignment section HERE

Passing Beam Check

When capturing a Smartpan beam check, it will also show you a Multiview beam check. Unless the office actively uses the Multiview, the only image that we care about is the Smartpan beam check.
