Dimax 4 Cephalometric Flat Fields
Setup
Did you remember to - Zero the Layer Light
You should already have Device Tool installed at this point if you've followed our Beam Check guide. If not, go reference that for setting up the Device Tool software. Otherewise, proceed onto the next section.
Capture
Before shooting your ceph shot, remove both ear rods from their slots, and either remove or flip the naseon up so it is not in the imaging area. Additionally, the pan side should be completely clear of calibration or positioning tools.
Shooting flat fields for the ceph side is very similar to pan. There is just one additional tool/step required to shoot a ceph flat field.
Before taking your ceph flat field, you will need to insert the Hatchet tool. It should slide into the ear rod slot that is closer to the sensor, with the slanted side facing towards the wall (shown below).
Once this step is complete, you will simply wait for Device Tool to display “Waiting for Exposure”, then hold the exposure switch until the flat field is complete.
Once complete, Device Tool will ask you to adjust the ceph offset. If you need to, you can use the arrows on the right, or the arrow keys on your keyboard to make this adjustment, with the X and Y values being references for your starting point.
The goal with changing the offset is to make the point where the lower and upper portions of the image meet as smooth as possible.
Most of the time, you will not need to make changes, as Device Tool should auto-correct any issues with the ceph offset.
